Summary

Although the Canadian government has not passed any major amendments to the copyright Act since 1997, technology continues to advance at a rapid pace, and provides unprecedented access to copyrighted works. The focus of this report is the manner in which copyright, and reform of the Copyright Act, affects consumers in relation to the following topics:
- Digital Rights Management and Emerging Technologies
- The Private Copying Regime and Collective Rights Management
- The Term of Copyright Protection
- New Developments in Copyright and PIAC Consultations with Stakeholders and other Public Interest Groups
