This research has three main objectives surrounding the question of dual labelling of measurement units in grocery stores. First, Option consommateurs aims to establish the extent to which grocery stores in two urban areas of Canada combine the metric and imperial systems in their labelling. Second, Option aims to determine the extent to which these labelling practices benefit consumers, or inversely, are likely to mislead consumers. Finally, Option will determine the expediency of maintaining the existing moratorium for grocery stores with respect to enforcement of the law and metric conversion. Based on these three research objectives, Option will propose recommendations in order to ensure that the practices of labelling weights and measures are those that both guarantee the optimal functioning of the marketplace and also meet the needs of consumers.This document is available in the following language(s):
