The objectives of this project were: a) to make the Code more practical; b) to establish criteria for determining to what extent merchants are complying with the Code; c) to determine to what extent online retailers in Canada apply the provisions of the Code in their policies and practices; d) to assess to what extent the Code meets the expectations of consumer associations and the industry; and e) to provide useful feedback on the Code review process. The project went no farther than an assessment of a sample of retailers’ Web sites and stated policies. Researchers did not seek to assess policies and practices in other ways by making purchases or reviewing consumer complaints. They accepted the policies as stated and tested them as far as they could by reviewing merchants’ Web sites.This document is available in the following language(s):
