Summary

The following report introduces the results of a study, which sought to flesh
out what neuromarketing is, investigate the progress made throughout years
of research in this field, as well as offer recommendations to governments,
industry, and consumers. This study had a one-year research period,
beginning on April 1st 2007 and ending on March 31st 2008.
In order to reach its goal, the Service d'aide au Consommateur (SAC)
conducted intensive research in a wide variety of written and electronic
media. Researchers from various academic fields were contacted in order to
learn more about their work, as well as their views on the various aspects of
the subject at hand. The SAC also put together teams of ethical, scientific,
marketing and consumer specialists in order to lead discussions on
neuromarketing. It should also be noted that all of these fields collaborated
in an exemplary manner to the study. Industry representatives were also
contacted and asked to fill out a survey in order to learn more about their
knowledge of neuromarketing and the benefits they perceive this form of
marketing could bring to the industry. Unfortunately, despite the SAC's
many efforts, very few agencies responded to the survey.
