About the Project

How it works

The Global Hypergrowth Project (GHP) will provide support to a select group of Canadian firms to help them find key supports and overcome challenges from exporting barriers, to regulatory challenges, and beyond. Each company will work with a dedicated advisor, drawn from a team of experts with extensive public and private sector experience. With the help of the Project’s government partners, the advisor will facilitate connections for the company, and provide focused attention where it’s needed most, especially in the areas of:

  • funding
  • international expansion
  • talent acquisition
  • navigating federal regulation
  • navigating procurement projects
  • streamlined access to expertise and mentorship

In addition each company will also receive:

  • a custom service plan tailored to their individual needs
  • facilitated, fast-tracked connections to government support

How are firms selected?

To select the first group of companies, GHP leveraged the expertise of an independent, volunteer Selection Panel, consisting of prominent Canadian business leaders with diverse experience. After an initial application period, during which firms were either referred or self-nominated, the selection panel helped to assess and recommend firms.

Selection Panelists looked for Canadian companies that are operating sustainably by managing risks and opportunities related to environmental, social, and governance criteria, and that offer a competitive advantage with Intellectual Property assets such as patents, trademarks, copyrights and products protected by trade secrets. They then evaluated qualifying firms against various market driven criteria and, ultimately, made recommendations for the most suitable to the Deputy Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada.

To ensure transparency and that best business practices were followed throughout the selection process, Selection Panelists agreed to strict guidelines. These guidelines include a Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality Agreement, a personal cooling-off period, the disclosure of any potentially competing interests, and requirements to establish and ensure ethical firewalls are in place with their own organizations.
