Have you ever been at a big event where your mobile phone doesn’t work because there are too many people trying to use the network? Well, the team at the Communications Research Centre (CRC) is all too aware of this problem. That’s why they are working on ways for Making Better Use of Spectrum.
Founded in 1969, the Communications Research Centre Canada has pioneered satellite, broadcasting, fiber optic and wireless technology.
Innovative Wireless Research at Canada’s Communications Research Centre
This video shows the CRC's past, present and future, and how the CRC is finding out what is possible and what works.
Everyone is talking about 5G and the future of wireless. But what is it? Why is it important? This short animated video explores how 5G will change the world in ways we can't yet imagine and how Canada's Communications Research Centre is working to help Canada be a leader in 5G.
How do we make sure that Canadians will have excellent 5G wireless coverage everywhere? The higher frequency spectrum needed for 5G doesn't pass through doors or even trees like todays mobile signals do. So what can we do about it? Canada's Communications Research Centre has found a cool solution. Check out this short animated video to find out what it is.
CRC and City of Ottawa 5G Test Site
5G wireless networks will pave the way for the future. Everything from smart cities to self-driving cars and even virtual reality education. In partnership with the City of Ottawa, the CRC has built an outdoor 5G test site at City Hall to show that 5G mobile devices can communicate using millimetre waves and how to increase 5G coverage without adding transmitters.
Spectrum is needed for wireless communications. But what is radio spectrum or radio frequency? This short animated video helps explain what spectrum is and how the Communications Research Centre is helping Canada manage this scarce natural resource.
Spectrum Environment Awareness SEA
What do we really know about how, when and where spectrum is used? Why is this important? Canada's Communications Research Centre is using a network of smart sensors, big data, cloud analytics and innovative visualization to help Canada make better use of this scarce natural resource and to be at the forefront of spectrum management. Find out how from this short animated video.
