Using precision chemistry to save farmers time, labour, and resources

When it comes to agriculture, innovators are constantly looking for new ways to increase crop quality while reducing harmful environmental impacts — benefitting farmers, the planet, and all those who inhabit it.

Based in Mississauga, Ontario, Vive Crop Protection is rising to the challenge to help farmers do more with less. Using the chemicals farmers know and trust, Vive’s patented delivery system and crop protection products help growers cut down on cost, time, and resources while reducing their environmental impact.

How they’re changing the game

Vive’s patented Allosperse® technology works at a nanoscopic level to get active crop protection ingredients exactly where they need to be, when they need to be there – and to help them stay in place.

With this technology, chemicals cover the plant more effectively, are more resistant to rain and perform better. It also helps ensure that the chemicals don’t fall off the seeds, which helps to reduce risks to not only the plant but to the surrounding environment.

By using the Allosperse® technology to create a protective shell around pesticides, Vive products can also be safely mixed with other chemicals, liquid fertilizers, micronutrients, and hard water. In comparison to conventional pesticides, Vive’s increased mixability means farmers can get the job done in one single pass, cutting down on labor time, fuel costs, greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs), harmful emissions, and hassle.

With single-pass application and the more effective use of products, Vive has already helped farmers save an estimated 128,704,000 litres of water and 71,500 litres of fuel since 2018. In addition to blazing a trail in sustainable farming, Vive is committed to improving agricultural education, starting with its own staff. Vive recently sent lab staff, sales managers, and members of the head office to farms across Canada and the US to meet the growers they support, to get their hands dirty, and learn a little bit more about agriculture.

Building on their existing technologies, Vive is working to develop effective new biopesticide products and sustainable technologies that can be easily integrated into existing crop management practices. This can help farmers achieve higher yield potential. Biologicals, for example, which are plant protection products derived from living organisms, can be used to complement chemical crop protection. Using biologicals allows growers the ability to control plant diseases, insect pests and weeds in their crops. Vive is unlocking the full potential of biologicals and a transition to a bio-based future.

From local farms to the shelves of grocery stores across the country, growers play an important role in the lives of all Canadians. By bringing the power of precision chemistry to agriculture, Vive is connecting the lab to the field, enabling growers to cut costs and reduce their environmental footprint.
