Industry framework policy

The business environment for telecommunications is constantly evolving. The Industry Framework Policy directorate is responsible for ensuring that Canada’s telecommunications policies reflect changing marketplace and technological developments in order to meet the needs of both consumers and the industry. Key objectives include promoting competition and innovation, and ensuring universal and affordable access to telecommunications services.

The Industry Framework Policy directorate develops and maintains framework policies for telecommunications with regard to spectrum auctions, foreign investment, consumer issues, trade negotiations and other matters. In support of this policy development, the Branch conducts analysis of competition, investment and other factors in the telecommunications market in Canada, as well as international precedents.
